Tiempo atrás durante mis años de pubertad, comencé a sentir una fascinación por el look rockero, recuerdo incluso haber querido pintar mi cabello de negro intenso (para verme como Amy de Evanescense)... aunque claro meses después de pensarlo decidí que no era lo mas ideal, pues en mi caso el resultado podría ser algo muy cercano a ricitos de oro se vuelve dark.
Time went by and my fascination for leather hasn´t change, I actually define my current style as rebel yet elegant.
El tiempo pasó y mí gusto por el cuero no ha cambiado, incluso podría decir que mi estilo se define en rockero y a la vez elegante.
It´s funny how time changes, people change and of course fashion changes too. An even though the leather jacket is a wardrobe classic…
Y es curioso como el tiempo cambia, la gente cambia y por supuesto, la moda cambia. Y a pesar de que piezas como la chaqueta de piel son un clásico del guardarropa.
During the last years we have seen how
the leather had succeed in opening a path beyond the rocker look to take a
place as a more wearable fabric, it can be seen in all kind of social situations
even the formal ones. It can be used in the entire piece or just in little
details, also is not necessary for the leather to be real and is perfectly
acceptable to use synthetic leather or “pleather”, also known as faux leather
or vegan leather.
En los últimos dos años hemos visto como la piel o cuero ha logrado abrirse con éxito más allá del mero look rockero para tomar lugar como una tela que puede ser vista en toda clase de ocasiones, incluso en las formales. Puede utilizarse en toda la prenda o en pequeños detalles, y no es necesario que sea real, aquí en gustos se rompen géneros y es perfectamente aceptable utilizar cuero sintético o mejor dicho pleather aunque también se le suele llamar faux leahter o vegan leather.

Coloured leather has appeared too in
this trend. And yes I know, who had the great idea of dying leather? Does
anybody remember the visual disasters we have seen during the last decade?
El color también ha hecho de las suyas con esta tendencia. Y sí, lo sé. ¿A quién se le ocurre hacer piel de color? ¿Qué no recuerdan los desastres visuales que han ocasionado en numerosas ocasiones?
I´d like to believe in second chances
but I have to confess too, that during several years I repeated myself
constantly: “if ain´t natural leather colour it shouldn´t exist at all”. To me,
it looked too fake and reflected bad taste, like plastic flowers.
Pero soy una firme creyente de las segundas oportunidades aunque debo confesar que durante muchos años me repetía constantemente que: "sí el cuero no era del color natural de la piel de la que provenía no debería ser algo que existiera en mi opinión". Para mí, era algo demasiado falso y de mal gusto, como las flores de plástico.
However, I must accept I was wrong. And
during the last summer I have recognise the fact that it is possible and really
bold to use dyed leather. Last season it was a “boom” but I believe this trend
still have a long life ahead and we still have new styles to explore.
Sin embargo, debo aceptar mi error. Y creo que este verano he logrado aceptar el hecho de que es posible y muy audaz utilizar el color en el cuero. Ya tuvo su auge esta pasada primavera pero esta tendencia aún tiene muchas formas y tiempo para explorarse.
And even though it is true, coloured
leather is “in” now and probably it will be for a long time, it doesn´t mean
every piece of coloured leather is OK. There is a fine line and crossing it
might end in disaster. My advice: execution and blending.
Y aunque es cierto que el cuero en color esta de moda y probablemente lo seguirá, no quiere decir que todo el cuero en color se vea bien. Existe una delgada linea y cruzarla puede terminar en desastre. Mi consejo es: ejecución y combinación.

Let´s be fussy and look for quality. It
doesn´t mean “expensive” but well executed, to look good in our bodies and find
the right fitting. Once we have found the ideal piece of clothing we have to
mix it with the correct textures and colours. Leather + leather + leather might
be too much in most cases.
Seamos exigentes y busquemos calidad. No quiere decir que tenga que ser algo caro, pero sí algo bien hecho, que se vea bien en nuestro cuerpo y sea del talle adecuado. Y una vez encontrada la pieza ideal, hay que combinarla con los colores ideales y las texturas correctas. Cuero + cuero + cuero suele ser demasiado en la mayoría de los casos.
There are million of choices to wear
with leather, one of them is to chose a really delicate fabric to restrain the strength
of the leather and make it more wearable. Or maybe take a printed fabric to
show contrast and be bold.
Existen varias formas de usar estas prendas, una de ellas es utilizar una tela muy delicada para restar la fuerza que el cuero impone y hacerlo más usable. O tal vez una tela con estampados que contrasten y sean audaces.Let´s take a risk, learn from our mistakes and enjoy our victories.
